For Diamond Fine Furniture’s second exhibition, within a compact spatial footprint, resides an extraordinary body of work distilled from more than fifty years of creative practice by Tran Quang.
We began by sketching loosely on paper, drawing an ascending timeline and imagining ourselves drifting through those years. Then we recalled a passage from Kafka on the Shore, where Haruki Murakami writes: “When you come out of the storm you won't be the same person who walked in. That's what this storm's all about.”
Entering and leaving through the same passage, yet carrying two different states of mind. That is the story we sought to tell through this exhibition.
The linear timeline is folded back upon itself through the notion of In and Out. The works on display are carefully selected milestones along a lifelong journey. They reveal the perspective of a craftsman across different periods of his life - looking back upon a body of work that now resembles a treasure trove accumulated over decades. A true inheritance of knowledge, experience, and beauty; a reserve preserved for both the present and the future.
Was Mr. Tran Quang’s path itself a storm? A young man, filled with aspirations, stepping into uncertainty and doubt; and an artisan emerging from the waves with the lightness of spirit that comes only after more than fifty years of wandering, learning, and creating across the world.
